Changes in the environment in recent years have led to the examination of the role and influence human activities on it. Attempts to quantify the impact of these activities by developing standardized modeling frameworks through life cycle sustainability assessment is one such approach in the context of sustainability seeking to measure the impact of human interventions from a holistic perspective that includes economic, social, and environmental dimensions. Sustainable alternatives to synthetic products are always keenly sought after. Biosurfactants are emerging as suitable alternatives to the predominant less sustainable petroleum-derived counterparts. Several factors surrounding their production, distribution, and end-use, however, still needs to be considered before conclusively confirming their sustainability. Though data are still limited in that subject matter, research showing their impact on some sustainability indicators is highlighted. This review discusses the potential of biosurfactants as sustainable products in the context of social, economic, and environmental aspects.  相似文献

Luminescent properties and singlet oxygen production using CeF3:Tb3+-based nanoparticles modified with SiO2 and protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) were studied. CeF3:Tb3+ nanopowder was prepared via sol–gel route, with subsequent surface coating by SiO2 layer and the conjugation with photosensitive PpIX molecules. Radioluminescence spectra suggest an energy transfer from Ce3+ to Tb3+ ions and from Tb3+ to molecules of PpIX photosensitizer. The energy transfer was confirmed by photoluminescence decay curves. Singlet oxygen production was detected using a reaction of 1O2 with 3’-(p-aminophenyl) fluorescein (APF) chemical probe after X-Ray excitation. Qualitative changes in time resolved photoluminescence spectra in the region of 520 nm indicate 1O2 generation. Studied nanocomposites may be good candidates for the application in X-ray induced photodynamic therapy.  相似文献

Advances in colloidal synthesis allow for the design of particles with controlled patches. This article reviews routes towards colloidal locomotion, where energy is consumed and converted into motion, and its implementation with active patchy particles. A special emphasis is given to phoretic swimmers, where the self-propulsion originates from an interfacial phenomenon, raising experimental challenges and opening up opportunities for particles with controlled anisotropic surface chemistry and novel behaviors.  相似文献

The present paper contains the exact solutions for thin film flows of a micropolar fluid. Thin films are considered for three different geometries namely: (i) flow down an inclined plane, (ii) flow on a moving belt and (iii) flow down a vertical cylinder. The exact solution is obtained for the velocity and micro-rotation in first two cases for both weak and strong concentrations of the microelements. However, the exact expression for the micro-rotation is obtained for the third case and a numerical solution is presented for the velocity. The micro-rotation and velocity fields are sketched and discussed for different values of the material parameters. It is observed that the rotation of the microelements at the boundary increases the velocity when compared with the case when there is no rotation at the boundary.  相似文献

Diffusion coefficients of an aqueous system containing cadmium chloride 0.100 mol · dm−3 and lactose at different concentrations at 25 °C have been measured, using a conductimetric cell and an automatic apparatus to follow diffusion. The cell relies on an open-ended capillary method and a conductimetric technique is used to follow the diffusion process by measuring the resistance of a solution inside the capillaries, at recorded times. From these results and by ab initio calculations, it was possible to obtain a better understanding of the effect of lactose on transport of cadmium chloride in aqueous solutions.  相似文献

In hot-water molecular dynamics simulation at 370 K, four cellulose IIII crystal models, with different lattice planes and dimensions, exhibited partial crystalline transformations of (1 ?1 0) chain sheets, in which hydroxymethyl groups were irreversibly rotated from gt into tg conformations, accompanied by hydrogen-bond exchange from the original O3–O6 to cellulose-I-like O2–O6 bonds. The final hydrogen-bond exchange ratio was about 95 % for some of the crystal models after 50 ns simulation. The corrugated (1 ?1 0) chain sheet was converted to a cellulose-I-like flat chain sheet with a slightly right-handed twist. The 3D structures of the three types of isolated chain sheet models were optimized using density functional theory calculations to compare their stabilities without crystal packing forces. The cellulose Iβ (1 0 0) models were more stable than the cellulose IIII (1 ?1 0) models. The optimized structure of cellulose IIII (1 0 0) models deviated largely from the initial sheet form. It was proposed to the crystalline transformation from cellulose IIII to Iβ that conversion of the chain sheet structure first take place, followed by sliding of the chain sheet along the fiber axis.  相似文献

In thermodynamic equilibrium, the contact angle is related by Young's equation to the interfacial energies. Unfortunately, it is practically impossible to measure the equilibrium contact angle. When for example placing a drop on a surface its contact angle can assume any value between the advancing Θa and receding Θr contact angles, depending on how the drop is placed. Θa − Θr is called contact angle hysteresis. Contact angle hysteresis is essential for our daily life because it provides friction to drops. Many applications, such as coating, painting, flotation, would not be possible without contact angle hysteresis. Contact angle hysteresis is caused by the nanoscopic structure of the surfaces. Here, we review our current understanding of contact angle hysteresis with a focus on water as the liquid. We describe appropriate methods to measure it, discuss the causes of contact angle hysteresis, and describe the preparation of surfaces with low contact angle hysteresis.  相似文献
